Also known as Herman, Herimann, or Hermann von Reichenau (German) and Hermannus Augiensis (Latin), from the Abbey of Reichenau (Latin: Augia Major); as Hermann the Lame or the Cripple, Hermannus Contractus (Latin), and Hermann der Lahme (German); and as Hermann von Vöringen (German, "Hermann of Vöhringen"), from his birthplace. 11th-century Benedictine monk and scholar who composed important works in history, music, astronomy, and mathematics.
