James Pounder Whitney
(1857–1939)

British ecclesiastical historian and clergyman; after holding various teaching and clerical appointments; Professor of Ecclesiastical History at King's College, London (1908–18); Dixie Professor of Ecclesiastical History at the University of Cambridge (1919–39); he was co-editor of The Cambridge Medieval History from 1907 to 1922; and was awarded a Doctor of Divinity degree by the University of Cambridge in 1919
