@Londonjackbooks: Two Ernest Challengers in UK forces of WW1, neither had a "K." in their records, both were corporals:
- One b. 1892 was in Dragoon Guards and from Lancashire, showing as Arts student in 1911 census. Son of Samuel Christopher Challenger.
- Other was from Camerton/Peasedown in Somerset, b. 1888 and showing as miner. Pretty good bet that miner ends up in the Royal Engineers, died 1948, Bathavon, Somerset. Son of Willia, no indication of a K. anywhere.
I can find no EKC birth in the United Kingdom through FreeBMD. Not sure what is wanted to be done, however, thing that ditching the K. would be my thoughts, as that is easily mistaken. — billinghurst sDrewth 14:05, 16 April 2018 (UTC)
- @Billinghurst: Well, that does present a challenge ;) As there is a "K." in the text, perhaps ditch the K for the author page, but after the reference to the poem at the author page, add "as Ernest K. Challenger" after the poem? Maybe a future passer-by will have knowledge of a full name (and a source) and update the author page titling. I don't know. Is it enough that we have this conversation available as a reference? Londonjackbooks (talk) 14:27, 16 April 2018 (UTC)
- Suggest that we move to "Ernest Challenger" which isn't wrong, leaving the redirect, and if someone comes along and can prove that there is a K, and for what it stands, then we can move and adjust. There are few Ernest Challengers that could be in UK armed forces, and I can account for others as died in infancy, etc. I have enough of a trail of genie info. — billinghurst sDrewth 14:31, 16 April 2018 (UTC)
- Sounds good to me! I can make the move... Thanks, Londonjackbooks (talk) 14:39, 16 April 2018 (UTC)
