G Thorne Jun gave a talk with this same title to the Auckland Institute 22 Feb 1876. The article refers to moa bones and other finds by G Thorne Jnr donated to Auckland Museum.

A "George Thorne" (3 September 1846 – 23 June 1907) with a father also called George Thorne can be found on Family Search records. K4GD-Y9J. This George Thorne was apparently born in Sydney, married in Auckland and died in England. This matches newspaper report for death of Isabella, wife of George Thorne Jnr. wife Isabella dies 1885 https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/NZTIM18850722.2.22.1 not found in bdm index. marriage 1881/2353 Isobel Murdoch to George Thorne
