• These Ancestry.com search results suggest Hemken was born in Chicago (Cook County, Illinois) in either 1913 or 1918, possibly married a Robert Schumann and, if so, may be the Gertrude (Hemken) Schumann who died in California in 1981. Her middle name may have been Carolina.
• The letter in Astounding Stories (March 1931) says she is 18 years old, so the 1913 date of birth would be correct (and a 1981 death is plausible).
• The blog Tellers of Weird Tales states that she was the third most prolific letter writer printed in Weird Tales.
