Death of Rev. J. Davidson, formerly of Ellon.

The "Western Daily News," Bristol, announces the death of the Rev. James Davidson, whose association with the parish of St Paul's Portland Square, as vicar had extended over the long period of 33 years. Deceased, who was born in Ellon, had spent 47 years in the ministry, having been ordained in 1867. His first curacy was at Troutbeck, Westmorland, which he held from 1867 to 1870, and he was also curate at St Mark's Liverpool, for some time. Prior to going to Bristol, he was for three years vicar at Christ Church, Chester. It was in 1881 that he took up his work as vicar of St Paul's, Portland Square. Mr Davidson made the strength of his personality felt at once. His charm of manner and devotion to the work of the church quickly gathered round him willing and enthusiastic helpers, and if St Paul's has not quite recovered the prosperity it enjoyed a century ago, it has, under the guidance of the late vicar, become again a centre of great Christian activity and philanthropic effort.
Mr Davidson leaves three sons and five daughters.
