Khalil Gibran's full name is [Gibran Khalil Gibran]. His given name is "Gibran" or "Jibran". His father's given name is "Khalil". His surname is "Gibran". In Lebanon it is common practice and long standing tradition to insert the father's given name between the given name and the surname. In Bsharri, where the poet was born and lived as a child, he would have been called "Gibran" or "Gibran Khalil" to distinguish him from other boys with the given name Gibran. He would never be called "Khalil" because that would indicate his father not him. His family or surname is "Gibran". He could be referred to as "Gibran Gibran".
