In Una Platt's book NINETEENTH CENTURY NEW ZEALAND ARTISTS pubished in 1980, R T Holmes is listed as living "at Thorndon, Wellington; was one of the founders of the Fine Arts Assoc Wtn and exhibited with them 1883"
R T Holmes was resident in Wellington in 1886 when he married Emma West.
