This Christmas poem was commissioned by the pastor of the parish of Roquemaure, France, to celebrate the renovation of the church organ. It was set to music as "Cantique de Noël" by Adolphe Adam in 1847, and was translated into English as "O Holy Night" by John Sullivan Dwight around 1858.
