I. I. 1611. "Thomas Maunsell [i.e. Mansell] of Morgan [i.e. Margam], co. Glamorgan, Knt.," s. and h. of Sir Edward Mansel, of the same, by Jane, yst. da. of Henry (Somerset), 2d Earl of Worcester; was Sheriff of Glamorganshire, 1593-94, 1603-04, and 1622-23; suc. his father, 5 Aug. 1595, and, having been Knighted before 1593, was cr. a Bart., as above, at the institution of that Order, 22 May 1611. He m. firstly, 30 May 1582, at Chelsea, Mary,da. of Lewis Mordaunt, 3d Lord Mordaunt, by Elizabeth, da. of Sir Arthur Darcy, Knt. He m. secondly, Jane, widow of John Bussey, and formerly of John Fuller, da. of Thomas Pole, or Powell, of Bishop Hall, Midx. He d. 20 Dec. 1631, and was bur. 1 March 1631/2, at Margam. Funeral cert. at Coll. of Arms. Will pr. 10 March 1631/2.
II. 1631. Sir Lewis Mansel, Bart. [1611], of Margam aforesaid, s. and h., by 1st wife; b. about 1594; mat. at Oxford (Bras. Coll.), 30 Jan. 1600/1, aged 16; adm. to Linc. Inn, 5 Feb. 1602/3; Knighted, 23 July 1603, at Whitehall, and suc. to the Baronetcy, 20 Dec. 1631; Sheriff of Glamorganshire, 1636-37. He m. firstly, after 1603, Katharine, da. of Robert (Sydney), 1st Earl of Leicester, by his 1st wife, Barbara, da. and h. of John Gamage, She d. s.p. He m. secondly, Katharine, da. of Sir Edward Lewis, of Vann, co. Glamorgan. He m. thirdly, 25 Aug. 1627, at Totteridge, Herts, Elizabeth, 1st da. of Henry (Montagu), 1st Earl of Manchester, by his 1st wife, Catharine, da. of Sir William Spencer, of Yarnton, Oxon. He d. 4 April 1638, at Margam, and was bur. there. Funeral cert. at Coll. of Arms. Will pr. 1638. His widow m. secondly, Sir Edward Sebright, 1st Bart. [1626], but d. in his lifetime before Feb. 1657/8.
III. 1638. Sir Henry Mansel, Bart. [1611], of Margam aforesaid, 1st s. and h.; suc. to the Baronetcy, 4 April 1638, being then aged 8 years. He d. in infancy soon afterwards.
IV. 1640?. Sir Edward Mansel, Bart. [1611], of Margam aforesaid, only br. and h., aged 1 year in 1638; suc. to the Baronetcy, about 1640; M.P. for Glamorgan, 1660, 1670-79, 1681 and 1685-87; Sheriff, Jan. 1688, but, apparently, declined to act. He m., about 1665, Martha, da. and coheir of Edward Carne, of Ewenny, co. Glamorgan, by Martha, da. and coheir of Sir Hugh Wyndham, Bart. [1641], of Pilsden, Dorset. He d. 17 Nov. 1706, aged 70.
V. 1706. Sir Thomas Mansel, Bart. [1611], of Penrice and Margam aforesaid, 2d but 1st surviving s. and h.[1]; b. about 1668; matric. at Oxford (Jesus Coll.), 7 March 1684/5, and then aged 17 ; Sheriff of Glamorgan, 1700-01; M.P. for Cardiff, 1689-98, and for Glamorgan, 1699-1712; Comptroller of the Household to Queen Anne, 1704-08 and 1711-12; one of the Commissioners of the Treasury, 1710-11; one of the Tellers of the Exchequer, 1712-14; Vice Admiral of South Wales, and a Privy Councillor, 1704. He suc. to the Baronetcy, 17 Nov. 1706. He m. (while under age), 18 May 1686, at Westm. Abbey (Lic. Vic. Gen.), Martha, only da. and h. of Francis Millington, of London, Merchant, one of the Commissioners of Customs to Charles II, by Martha, da. of Samuel Vyner, also of London. She was living when he was cr. 1 Jan. 1711/2, BARON MANSELL OF MARGAM, in which peerage this Baronetcy then merged and so continued till the death, 29 Nov. 1750, of the 4th Baron and 7th Baronet0, when it, as well as the peerage, became extinct.
