Bernardi, Steffano, was a learned theorist, as well as composer of masses and madrigals of a most elaborate and correct kind. He flourished from 1611 to about 16:34, and in 1623 was chapel-master of the Duomo at Verona. He published a didactic work, called "Porta Musicale," at Verona, in 1615. This elementary tract has the merit of clearness and brevity.
