ABAEUS (Ἀβαῖος), a surname of Apollo derived from the town of Abae in Phocis, where the god had a rich temple. (Hesych. s. v. Ἄβαι; Herod. viii. 33; Paus. x. 35. § 1, &c.) [L. S.]
