ANDERSON, JOHN (1795–1845)
Of the E.I.Co.'s service : went out to, Pulo Penang, or Prince of Wales' Island, in 1813, as a writer : after the usual succession of minor appointments he became, in 1827, senior merchant, Secretary to Government, and Malay translator : was employed in negotiations with the neighbouring potentates of Sumatra, etc. : died Dec. 2, 1845 : wrote several works about the Malayan Peninsula, the British settlements, and the adjacent countries and their commerce.
