APPA SAHIB ( ? –1840)
Raja of Nagpur : when Regent, in 1816, he put to death his cousin, Parsoram, or Parsoji, Bhonsla, an idiot Raja of Nagpur, and succeeded the late Raja's uncle, Raghoji Bhonsla II (q.v.) as Raja : Baji Rao appointed him nominal C. in C. of the Peshwa's army: Appa treacherously attacked the British under Mr. Jenkins, Resident of Nagpur, and was defeated at Sitabaldi, Nov., 26-7, 1817: taken prisoner, he escaped from custody and sought refuge, in 1818, at Jodhpur, where he is said to have died in 1840.
