CHAMBERLAIN, SIR NEVILLE FRANCIS FITZGERALD (1856–)
Born Jan. 13, 1856 : son of Lt-Colonel Charles Chamberlain, C.B. : educated abroad and at Brentwood School, Essex : joined the Army, 1873 : Central India Horse, 1876 : on the staff of Sir F. Roberts through the Afghan war, 1878–80 : A.D.C. to Sir F. Roberts when C. in C, Madras, 1881–5 : Persian Interpreter, 1885–90 : served in the Burma campaign, 1886–7 : re-organized the Kashmir Army, 1890–7 : commanded the Khyber Force, 1899 : Private Secretary to Lord Roberts in S. African war : Inspr-General Royal Irish Constabulary since 1900 : C.B. in 1900 : K.C.B., 1903 : retired as Colonel from the Indian Staff Corps.
