86.AFTER RAIN


Ah, how fair the sunlight seems
When the dark cloud passes!
Ah, what soothing fragrance streams
From the deep-drenched grasses!

Little birds in airy flight
Flit, forgetting showers;
Bury faces in delight
Deep in breasts of flowers.

All along the laughing brook,
Bees lurk through the clover;
But, for tears, I scarce can look—
My heart's day is over.
