57.THREE SPRINGS

In this terrestrial wilderness, three springsGush forth mysterious in the boundless gray;
The spring of youth, with passioned murmurings,Sparkles and boils on its rebellious way;
The spring of poesy exalts the bloodOf wanderers in life's desert sands apart;
But chill oblivion's spring in soothing floodAlone can cool the fever of the heart.

From the Russian of Alexandr Sergeevich Pushkin.
