24.WINTER SONG

Hark to my song:
The cold comes on;
With winter's snow
The summer's gone;

The winds are snell;
The sun is low;
Its life is short;
Fierce sea-tides flow;

Deep red the fern,
Long dead and dry;
The phalanxed geese
Make loud the sky;

Warned by the frost,
The birds depart;
A winter dirge
Wails in my heart.

From the Old Irish.
