Typography and Usage

I hope this does not upset anybody; but after noticing that the original typesetting of "n't" throughout this work appears to be universally preceded by half a normal space, I have decided to adopt more modern conventions and simply join the fragment to its preceding word. E.g.:

could n't

→couldn't

is n't

→isn't
