Line numbers in the original copy are placed at the outer margin, so that they are sometimes on the left, and sometimes on the right.

For this Wikisource edition, use:

Sentences spanning two books

Some sentences begin at the end of one book, and continue into the next book. The result is that the end of the first book in the pair does not terminate in a period, and the beginning of the second book in the pair may not begin with a capital letter.
