[edit]This edition is transcribe with curly quotes, instead of straight quotes.
The spoken dialogue represents dialect, and purposefully uses unconventional spacing and contractions. From page 20:
- Holroyd
- I shonna. I ’ll settle him. Shut thy claver. He ’ll non come anigh thee.
From page 37:
- Holroyd (shouting)
- I want nöwt. I ’m allowed nöwt in this ’ouse. (Shouting louder) ’Er begrudges me ivry morsel I ha’e.
The peculiarities in contractions and spacings can be seen, e.g., on page 4, where:
- they ’re - has a space
- it ’s - has a space
- I ’ll - has a space
- are n’t - has a space
but
- don’t - has no space
- shan’t - has no space
- gentlemen’s - has no space
