NOTABLE SCHOLAR DEAD

The death has occurred in Dublin of Dr. Benjamin Williamson, D.Sc., F.R.S., D.C.L., Senior Fellow of Trinity College, Dublin in his 89th year.

Dr. Williamson who had bee connected with the College for nearly 60 years, and had held the position of Vice-Provost for some years, was born in Cork, and received his early education in Kilkenny College. He became a Fellow of Trinity College in 1854, and was Professor of Natural Philosophy in 1884 and Senior Fellow in 1897.

He was the author of many notable works, including a Treatise on the Differential Calculus, 1872; Integral Calculus, 1874; Dynamics, 1884; Mathematical Theory of Stress and Strain, 1893. he wrote the articles "Infinitesimal Calculus", MacLaurin"; "Cauculus of Variations,' etc., for the 9th edition of the Encyclopaedia Britannica.
