Jerusalem 3239 is a cable message that was sent in November 1978 from the United States Consulate General in Jerusalem to the United States Department of State in Washington, D.C., reporting abusive methods allegedly used systematically by Israeli authorities to interrogate Palestinian detainees in Jerusalem and the West Bank. Along with a previous cable, Jerusalem 1500, Jerusalem 3239 became the subject of controversy when its contents became public in February 1979.[1] Originally classified "secret," the cable was declassified in 2008 and released in full (except for captions) in 2009 pursuant to a Freedom of Information Act request.[2]
