When fields were green and skies were clear,
     And bluebells paved the woods of spring,
I weighed the world against her tear,
     And found her tear the dearer thing.
But while I followed gain and fame,
     And in the great world played my part,
I changed; but she remained the same,
     And now I think it broke her heart.
