Abdy, John Thomas, LL.D., judge of county courts (No. 38) since 1871, recorder of Bedford since 1870, LL.B. Trin. Hall, Camb., 1847, LL.D. 1852, fellow 1850, regius professor of laws Cambridge 1854–73, examiner in civil law Cambridge 1854–74, in law and history 1874–5, in law tripos 1876–7, professor of law to Gresham Coll., went the Eastern circuit and the Home circuit, J.P. Herts and Cambridge borough, author of Historical Sketch of Civil Procedure among the Romans, etc., a student of the Inner Temple 12 Oct., 1842, called to the bar 29 Jan., 1850 (eldest son of Col. James Nicholas Abdy); born at Madras 5 July, 1822; married at Gunby, Lincolnshire, 7 July, 1854, Marion, 2nd dau. of John Hardwick Hollway, Esq., of Gunby, aforesaid, and has issue (see Foster's Baronetage).
