Austin, William, M.A., Peterhouse, Camb., 1845 (7th wrangler 1842), chairman Metropolitan and St. John's Wood Railway Co., diiector of various railway and other public companies, a student of Lincoln's Inn 16 Feb., 1842 (then aged 21), called to the bar 1 May, 1846 (only son of Edward Austin, Esq., of Ellern Croft, Wootton-under-Edge); born 17 March, 1820; married 1st, 12 March, 1863, Mary Ann Jane, eldest dau. of Francis William Topham, Esq., of Hampstead; she died 21 May, 1868; he married 2ndly, 19 July, 1873, Gertrude Jane, only dau. of William C. T. Dobson, Esq., R.A.
