Baillie-Hamilton, William Alexander, major East Lothian cavalry 1883, first class clerk Colonial Office since 1881 (entered service 1864), private secretary to Rt. Hon. J. Lowther when Under-Secretary for the colonies 1874-8 and when chief secretary for Ireland 1878-80, educated at Harrow, a student of the Inner Temple 1 May, 1869 (then aged 24), called to the bar 18 Nov., 1872 (eldest son of Admiral Baillie-Hamilton); born 6 Sept., 1844; mar. 21 June, 1871, Mary Aynscombe, only dau. of late Rev. John Mossop, of Hothfield, Kent, and has issue (see Foster's Peerage, E. Haddington).
