Bramston, John, D.C.L., B.A. Balliol Coll., Oxon, assistant under-secretary of state for the colonies since 1876, educated at Winchester Coll., fellow All Souls' Coll., Oxon, 1855, member of Legislative Council of Queensland 1863-9 and of Executive Council 1863-6, attorney-general 3 May, 1870, to 31 Dec., 1873, represented the Burnett district in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland April, 1871, to Dec., 1873, attorney-general of Hong Kong 1873, acting judge of supreme court of Hong Kong Feb. to May, 1874, a student of the Middle Temple 21 Nov., 1854, called to the bar 6 June, 1857 (2nd son of Thomas William Bramston, Esq., M.P., of Skreens, Essex); born 14 Nov., 1832; married 12 Dec., 1872, Eliza Isabella, dau. of Rev. Harry Vane Russell.
