Campbell, Sir George, K.C.S.I. 1873, D.C.L. 1870, B.C.S. 1842-68, lieut-governor of Bengal 1869-74, member of Indian council 1874-5, sometime a judge of supreme court Calcutta, M.P. Kirkcaldy burghs since 1875, J.P., D.L. Fifeshire, a student of the Middle Temple 12 April, 1851, went to the Inner Temple 19 and called to the bar there 26 Jan., 1854 (eldest son of Sir George Campbell, of Edenwood, co. Fife); born , 1824; married 2 Feb., 1854, Letitia Maria, only dau. of late Thomas Gordon Vibart, Esq., B.C.S., and has issue (see Foster's Peerage, B. Stratheden).
