Cayley, Sir Richard, M.A. (scholar), St. John's Coll., Camb., 1858, chief justice Ceylon 1879-83, knighted at Windsor Castle 29 June, 1882, advocate Ceylon 1863, deputy Queen's advocate 1867-72, puisne judge supreme court of that island 1873-6, Queen's advocate 1876-9, a student of Lincoln's Inn 2 Nov., 1859 (then aged 26), called to the bar 11 June, 1862 (3rd son of Edward Cayley, Esq., of Stamford, co. Lincoln); born 22 April, 1833; married 17 April, 1866, Sophia Margaret, dau. of David Wilson, a member of the Legislative Council of Ceylon, and has issue (see Foster's Baronetage).
