Elton, Charles Isaac, M.P. West Somerset since Feb., 1884, B.A., Balliol Coll., Oxon, 1862, fellow Queen's Coll. 1862, lord of the manor and patron of White Staunton, occasional assistant endowed schools commissioner 1873-6. author of Origins of English History, On the Laws of Copyholds, etc., On Common and Waste Lands, etc., a student of Lincoln's Inn 7 June, 1862 (then aged 23), called to the bar 17 Nov., 1865 (eldest son of Frederick Bayard Elton, Esq., of Clifton, co. Gloucester); born 6 Dec, 1839; married 6 Aug., 1863, Mary Augusta, dau. of Richard Strachey, Esq. (see Foster's Baronetage).
