Hastings, George Woodyatt, M.P., East Worcestershire since 1880, LL.M., Christ Coll., Camb., 1870, LL.B. 1852, went the Oxford circuit, J.P., D.L. co. Hereford, vice-chairman quarter sessions co. Worcester, J.P., chairman of Worcester School Board 1871, formerly secretary to Law Amendment Society, hon. secretary to National Reformatory Union, general secretary to National Association for Promotion of Social Science 1857-68 (chairman of the council 1868-83), a student of the Middle Temple 4 Nov., 1846, called to the bar 3 May, 1850 (only son of late Sir Charles Hastings, of Worcester, M.D., D.C.L., dec.); born 28 Sept., 1825; married, 1st 10 Aug., 1858, Catherine Anna, dau. of late Rev. Samuel Mence, B.D., rector of Ulcombe, Kent; she died , 1870; he married 2ndly, , 1877, Frances Anna, only child of late Rev. William Huntington Pillans, rector of Himley.
