Ilbert, Courtenay Peregrine, M.A. Balliol Coll., Oxon, legal member of the council of the governor-general of India since 1882, counsel to education department 1879-82, lecturer on real property and conveyancing to Incorporated Law Society 1881-2, author of Supreme Court of Judicature {Officers) Act 1879, a student of Lincoln's Inn 15 Nov., 1864 (then aged 23), called to the bar 7 June, 1869 (eldest son of Rev. Peregrine Arthur Ilbert, of Thurlestone, Devon); born 12 June, 1841; married 27 June, 1874, Jessie, dau. of Rev. C. Bradley.
