Leitner, Gottlieb William, M.A., Ph.D. (Freiburg 1862), LL.D., D.C.L., principal of the Government Coll. and of the Oriental Coll. at Lahore, registrar (and founder) of the Univ. of the Punjab, late on special duty with the Indian Education Commission, fellow 1864 and five years lecturer (1859) and professor (1861) of Arabic with Mahommedan language King's Coll., London, first class interpreter to the British commissariat during the Russian war 1855-6, discovered the languages and races of Dardistan 1866, author of Philosophical Grammar of Arabic, The Sinin-ul-Islam, The History of Turkey, The History of Dardistan, etc., a student of the Middle Temple 19 Nov., 1869, called to the bar 17 Nov., 1875 (only son of Johann Moritz Leitner, of Constantinople, doctor of medicine, dec.); born 14 Oct., 1840.
