McCoan, James Carlile, M.P. co. Wicklow since 1880, a member of the South-eastern circuit, formerly practised in the supreme consular court of the Levant at Constantinople, founder and editor of the Levant Herald, author of Consular Jurisdiction in the Levant, Our New Protectorate, Egypt as it is, etc., matric. London Univ. 1848, a student of the Middle Temple 15 Nov., 1851, called to the bar 17 Nov., 1856 (only son of Clement McCoan, of Charlemont, co. Armagh, dec.); born 14 July, 1829; married 2 June, 1857, Augusta Janet, youngest dau. of late William Jenkyns, of Elgin, N.B.
