Sclater-Booth, Rt. Hon. George, P.C, F.R.S., M.P. N. Hants since 1857, M.A. Balliol Coll., Oxon, parliamentary secretary to Poor Law Board 1867, to treasury 1868, president Local Government Board 1874-80, official verderer of the New Forest since 1877, assumed the additional surname of Booth in 1857, a student of the Inner Temple 16 Nov., 1846 (then aged 20), called to the bar 17 June, 1851 (eldest son of William Lutley Sclater, Esq., of Hoddington House, Hants); born 19 May, 1826; married 8 Dec., 1857, Lydia Caroline, only dau. of Major George Birch, of Clare Park, Hants; she died , 1881, leaving issue.
