Smythe, William, M.A., Christ Church, Oxon, 1828, from Westminster School, convener of county of Perth, sometime secretary and member of Board of Supervision and chairman of royal commission on roads and bridges Scotland, a member of Faculty of Advocates Scotland 1836, a student of Lincoln's Inn 24 Nov., 1825 (then aged 21), called to the bar 27 Nov., 1829 (younger son of David Smythe, late of Methven, co. Perth, a judge of court of session); born 23 Jan., 1803; married 1st, 9 Aug., 1838, Margaret, eldest dau. of James Walker, Esq., of London, F.R.S.; she died 17 Dec., 1846; he married 2ndly, 20 Feb., 1849, Emily, dau. of late Genl. Sir John Oswald, G.C.B., of Dunnikier, co. Fife, and has issue.
