Sir Henry Evelyn, G.C.M.G., K.C.B., V.C., commanding a column in the Soudanese campaign 1885, commander-in-chief (for Khedive) of Egyptian troops 1882-4, entered navy 1852, served with naval brigade in Crimea 1854-5, knight of the legion of honour and of the order of Medjidie, joined the army (13th dragoons) 1855, served in India 1858, Ashanti 1873-4, in Gaika war 1878, in Zulu war 1879, in Natal and the Transvaal 1881, commanded 4th brigade 2nd division of army in Egypt 1883, a student of the Middle Temple 30 April, 1870, called to the bar 30 April, 1874 (youngest son of late Rev. Sir John Page Wood, Bart., of Rivenhall Place, Essex); born 9 Feb., 1838; married 19 Sept., 1867, Hon. Mary Pauline Southwell, sister of Thomas, 4th Viscount Southwell, and has issue (see Foster's Baronetage).
