Men of Kent and Kentishmen/Edward Rowe Mores
Edward Rowe Mores,
ANTIQUARY,
Was born at Tunstall in 1730, of which parish his father was rector. He was educated at Merchant Tailors' School and at Queen's College, Oxford, where, in conjunction with the Rev. Wm. Romaine, he edited "Calasio's Concordance." In 1748 he printed "Nomina et Insignia Gentilitia Nobilium Equitumque sub Edwardo primo Rege Militantuum," and edited an edition of "Dionysius Halicamassensis De Claris Rhetoribus"; but the work of most interest to Kentish men, of which he was the author, is "The History and Antiquities of Tunstall," his native parish, published in "Nichols's Bibliotheca Topographica Britannica" in 1780. He was the originator of the "Equitable Society for Assurance on Lives," on which subject he published several pamphlets. He died in 1778.
