UDNY, GEORGE (2 son of Robert George Udny, member of council of governor-general of India 1801–7, died 24 Oct. 1830 aged 69). b. 1803; educ. Haileybury coll. 1818–20; writer Bengal civil service 30 April 1819; acting magistrate of Jessore 1823; acting import warehouse keeper 1826–7; went home 1827; returned to India 2 Oct. 1830; sec. and treasurer of Bank of Bengal 17 Sept. 1833 to 1840; on furlough 1840–3; sub-treasurer general treasury Bengal 1843, retired on annuity fund 1851; barrister L.I. 6 June 1855; author of A word on "the currency" 1845, A word on law in general, and on the law of England, and the study of it in particular 1855, Executory interests of the law of England 1857, Harmony of laws; or, examination of the principles of the laws of civilized nations 1858. d. 142 Adelaide road, Hampstead, 7 April 1879.
