Mord Em'ly (1898)
by W. Pett Ridge
[Arthur Pearson Ltd., London, 1898.]

Pett Ridge's first striking success. The narrative follows the journey, trials, tribulations and triumphs of Mord Em'ly (Maud Emily, in dialect), a lower class working girl brought up by her mother. Left alone much of the time, she is drawn to a girl gang, is caught, and may have to pay the price The story is enlivened by Pett Ridge's typical repartee and "humorous portraits of lower class life."
