This pretty little shrub must be familiar to most people in New Zealand, especially in Auckland, where it grows in great abundance; the long sprays of masses of little flowers make it look like large white feathers, but the colour soon changes to a light brown. It grows amongst the tea-tree shrub (Leptospermum Scoparium) on clay hills. "It is a member of a very large Australian and Tasmanian genus. They abound on all the coasts, especially of New Zealand, forming small shrubs, easily recognised by their decussate leaves and very tough bark used for cordage, paper, etc." Hook. fil.
