Dysoxylum spectabile, Hook, fil.



A large tree, forty to fifty feet high or more, with spreading branches and large dark green and glossy pinnate leaves. The flowers are waxy white, and are remarkable for being placed in long pendulous panicles springing from the branches considerably below the leaves. The leaves are very bitter; and an infusion of them is said to possess valuable tonic properties. It is confined to the North Island. It flowers in July and August.
