ELIZABETH THE SECOND, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of Her other Realms and Territories QUEEN, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith, To all to whom these Presents shall come:
Greeting!
WHEREAS, WE are desirous of recognising those who have rendered meritorious service in the Merchant Navy and Fishing Fleets of the United Kingdom, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.
We do by these Presents for Us, Our Heirs and Successors, institute and create a new Medal and We do hereby direct that it shall be governed by the following rules and ordinances:
First: Style. - It is ordained that The Medal shall be designated and styled "The Merchant Navy Medal for Meritorious Service".
Secondly: Description. - It is ordained that the Award shall be circular in form and in silver, bearing on the obverse the Crowned Effigy of The Sovereign, and on the reverse the inscription "For Meritorious Service", and a design emblematic of the Merchant Navy.
Thirdly: Name of Recipient. – It is ordained that the name of the recipient shall be engraved or stamped on the rim of the Medal.
Fourthly: Ribbon. - It is ordained that the Medal shall be worn by recipients on the left breast suspended on a ribbon one-and-a-quarter inches in width of which shall be in [colour green with on either side a red stripe, and a white stripe in the centre].
Fifthly: Eligibility. - It is ordained that the Medal shall be awarded only to those of Our Faithful Subjects and Others who have served in the Merchant Navy or Fishing Fleets of the United Kingdom, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands who shall have rendered such devotion to duty and exemplary service as shall have been of particular value and constituted an outstanding example to others.
Sixthly: Order of Wear. - It is ordained that in the official list showing the order in which Orders, Decorations and Medals shall be worn, The Merchant Navy Medal for
