Wexford, Ireland (who was h. 1780, and d. 1850), and d. 182-ls having had twenty-four ehildrcn, fourteen of whom sur- vived infauey, viz., r. Edward (Rev.), viear and rector of Kathmaelviiee, eo. Wexford, rn. Sarah Elinor, daugliter of John Beedin, of Prospect House, co. Lonj;ford, and grand-daughter of Captain Gkat, Hlh Dragoon Guards, of Tubberpatricli,co. Roscommon, and had with numerous other issue, a sou, Captain Edward E. Brett, J.P., of Svdiiev, New South Wales, /;. in Ireland, 20th December, 1842,- when in his thirteenth year he was apprenticed to the sea, and on the breaking out of the Ameri- can civil war offered bis services to the South, and was appointed to the command of a blockade runner, which he held from 1862 to lS6-i. He was eventually taken prisoner, but was liberated after a few weeks' confinement, and coutinued his profession in arious capacities iu difl'erent parts of the worhl until 1877, when ho settled in New South Wales, and after spending some years in Riverina, came to Sydney in 1882, where he is now engaged in the business of a land agent. Captain Brett has for some lime been a member of the council of the Royal Geographical Society of Australasia, and represented thai society al the Congress of I lie Australasian Association for the advancement of science, held in Sydney, September, 1888.
