Archdeacon Farr was educated at Christ's Hospital, and at Pembroke College, Cambridge, where he graduated B.A. in 1843, and M.A. in 1853. He was ordained deacon in 1844, having three years previously entered at the Middle Temple, and after being diocesan inspector of schools in West Cornwall, he emigrated to South Australia in 1854, from which year till 1879 he was head master of St. Peter's Collegiate School, Adelaide. He was appointed canon of Adelaide Cathedral in 1857, and ai-chdcacon of Mount Gambier in 1880; LL.D. (Cambridge) 1882; M.A. (Adelaide) 1877; warden of the senate of the University of Adelaide in 1880 ; LL.D. (Adelaide) 1883 ; and was first elected vice-chancellor of the University of Adelaide in 1888.
