EXPLANATION OF THE MARKS.
The marks prefixed to the names refer to a circuit of 16 miles round Poole; those after the names, to one of eight miles. ** signifies very common; * less common, but of frequent occurrence; § abundant in one or two localities; † rare; ? doubtful native; ‡ certainly introduced. Plants marked ǁ are beyond the distance specified, (16 miles) but within 30 miles of Poole, and ¶ signifies that the mark given with regard to the circuit of 16 miles, is solely in consequence of a station or stations within the eight miles. The figures affixed to some of the rarer plants, refer to their localities, which are subjoined at the end of the catalogue.
