series of pictures to show us at what a great rate they are moving about. Even in a few seconds the pattern becomes quite differently arranged, as you can see by comparing one of M. Hansky's pictures with another. Hansky's photographs of a small portion of the Sun's surface, June 25, 1905. They must be moving with great speed, some of them perhaps at 100 miles per second. We saw an instance of a great solar storm observed by Carrington and Hodgson; but we now begin to realize that the whole surface of the Sun is in a state of constant turmoil. We get another proof of this fact if we look at the edges
