Droict d'herbage vif. If he haue more then tenne, or twentie, then he giues euerie tenth sheepe; which is chosen by the Lord, or his Officers. These dueties are leuied at Midsummer, and grow due from Christmas Eue.
Droict d'hommes. The Kings Prerogatiue, and power of his officers, to moderate, or diminish th' excessiue taxes laied, by mesne Lords, in the iurisdiction of Tours, vpon their villeines, whom otherwise they might tax at pleasure.
Droict d'hostelage. The rate Marchant-strangers are at, in some parts of France, for their warehouses; and which, if they hold them, but a night, they pay, if a whole yeare, they doe but pay; also, as Pains d'hostelage; in Hostelage.
Droict de Iallage. One, two, or three pintes (as the custome is) of wine, taken by a Lord vpon euerie Poinson retailed within his iurisdiction.
Droict d'Indemnité. Looke Indemnité.
Droict d'Inquant. Fiue in the hundreth, due to the King in some parts of Provence.
Droict d'Intestat. A priuiledge which the next of bloud hath (in some places) to enter on the possessions left by his intestate kinsman.
Droict d'Investison. The right of Inuesture of Prelates, &c, due vnto the Prince.
Droict d'Issuë. The custome due for the transportation, or exportatiō of marchandise, &c, out of the land; also, the rights, fine, or seruices due vnto a mesne Lord vpon his tenants alienation, or leauing of his tenement vnto another.
Droict de Iurée. A duetie, or fine leuied yearely by th' old Earles of Champagne, vpon all their subiects, and vassalls; viz 6. d. in the pound for mouables, and 2. d. for euerie pounds worth of immoueables; yet might the richest be quit for 4. s. sterl. yearely; others not vnder 12. d. At this day the King, and other Lords of Iurisdiction take this duetie, in some places, of their Burgesses, or freemen.
Droict de Levage. An Imposition of three bushells, and three quarters, or 15. s. Tour. vpon euerie boatfull of salt transported: In some parts of France (as within Anjou, and le Maine) tis also, a pennie for a beefe, pipe of wine, load of corne, &c, and a halfe-pennie for a sheepe, hog &c, due vnto a Lord of Iurisdiction, if they haue bene within his libertie eight dayes together before their sale, or transportation.
Droict de Liage. Hoopage; or a fee due vnto some Lords vpon euerie hooped vessell of wine which their vassalls haue, or sell.
Droict de ligne esteinte. Escheatage; the right which a Lord hath in the land of his tenant, dying without heires of his bodie, or bloud.
Droict de litige. The right of presentation to a Benefice, by a Lord, while his vassalls are at suit for it; was the Dukes of Normandie, now tis the Kings; some hold it to be rather a receiuing of the fruits, & profits therof, while the suit lasts.
Droict de loges. A certaine annuall fee due vnto some Lords for the lodgings their vassalls haue within their castles, in time of warre.
Droict de logies. An yearelie tax of 16. s. 6. d. sterl. leuied vnto the Kings vse vpon euerie Prouostship within the countie of Poictou; ouer and besides the rent at which, or price for which, it is farmed; and 18. d. for the Officers of the Chamber of Accompts.
Droict de logues. A certain fee due, to th' vnder Butler of th' Abbey of Deots in Berri, out of the tithes
belonging to that Abbey.
Droict de lots. Certaine dueties paied by a purchaser vnto the Lord Censuel, who in receiuing them giues him possession of the land he hath bought; (They be commonly as much as Ventes, and goe together.)
Droict de maille d'or. A golden halfe-penie due, vnto the Duke of Nevers, by the Prior of S. Privé, for the Faire he keepes in that place.
Droict de Mainbournie. Soueraigne patronage, or protection.
Droict de Maire, & Communauté. The priuiledge of hauing, being, or belonging to, a Corporation.
Droict de Manée de sel. A certain quantitie of salt, vpon euerie horse-load thereof entring into Bourges, and of euerie one that sells any within Bourges; taken by th' Abbot, and Couent of S. Sulpice; Looke Manée.
Droict de Manteaux. Is 20. s. sterl. a yeare; and belongs both to euerie Secretarie of the house, and Crown of France, that takes wages, and vnto those Counsellors of Parliament, which are of, or for, the Church.
Droict de Marc. The Prouost of the Mints fee vpon euerie Marke, or halfe pound of gold, siluer, or Billon thats coined; Looke Marc.
Droict de Marchage. The Common of pasture which the inhabitants of one Iurisdiction, Parish, Village, or Mannor, haue ouer all the grounds belonging to another.
Droict de Marché. The royaltie of hauing, or keeping a Market within his territorie; belongs to a Lord Chattelain; and sometimes is conferred by the King on meaner Lords of Iurisdiction.
Droict de Marciage. Is, euerie third yeare, all the profit of naturall fruits, as hay, &c, and the halfe of all others, as wine, corne, &c, due, within Bourbonnois, vnto a Landlord, in lieu of his whole rent; tis also due, as a fine, vpon euerie change of Lord and tenant.
Droict de Marque. Power to arrest the bodie, and seise the goods, of another; graunted by the King, and, in old time, giuen by the Parliament, against a stranger, or forreiner.
Droict de Mesurage. Th' appointing, or proportioning of measures in a territorie; belongs to the Lord therof; also, toll-corne, and toll-salt; a dishfull vpon euery Septier of either.
Droict de Minage. The toll due vnto some Lords, vpon euerie Mine of corne thats measured within their Iurisdictions.
Droict de Moisson. A certaine quantitie of corne due yearely, vnto the King, out of the towne, and Iurisidiction of Bourges.
Droict de Monneage. An Aid, or Subsidie of 12. d. paid, each third yere, by euerie housholder within Normandie, vnto the Duke, or (as now) the King, on condition, that the money of the countrey be not altered: from this, are all Church-Officers; beneficed men; Gentlemen; widowes that haue not aboue 2. s. yearelie reuenewe, or 4. s. in goods (besides their apparell, and household-stuffe) and diuers others, by their Charters, exempted.
Drorct de Montenage. Toll paied vnto certaine Lords by those that buy, and sell beasts, or other marchandise within their territories.
