Ayliff, John, s. Joh., of Pember, Hants, gent. New Coll., matric. 1 Feb., 1695-6, aged 19 (from Winchester); B.A. 1699, M.A. 1703, B. & D.C.L. 1710, practiced as a proctor, an advocate in vice-chancellor's court at Oxford, and by a sentence of that court he was degraded 4 Feb., 1714-15, and expelled from the University three days after for publishing 'The Ancient and Present State of the University of Oxford, 1714;' a commissioner for licencing hawkers and pedlars, died in Crane Court, Fleet Street, 5 Nov., 1732, and buried in St. Dunstans. Ayloffe, (Sir) Joseph (6th Bart.), s. Jos., of London, arm. (after a baronet). Christ Church, matric. 1 March, 1677-8, aged 14; B.A. 1681, bar.-at-law, Gray's Inn, 1689, nominated a bencher 1709, clerk to the commissioners for the building of Westminster bridge 1737, F.R.S. 1732, F.S.A. 1732, one of the keepers of the state paper office 1763, died 19 April, 1781. Leicester, 1561, archdeacon 1562 and preb. of Lincoln 1564, bishop of London 24 March, 1576-7, queen's almoner, died 3 June, 1594, buried in St. Paul's Cathedral, father of Nathaniel and Zachary.
